Luxury Lower Zambezi Safaris

The Lower Zambezi National Park only has a handful of safari camps and lodges inside the park’s boundaries, which in turn means there are fewer vehicles to see when you are out on a game drive. Most of the luxury tented camps and lodges sit on the banks of the Zambezi River, which provides great views from the main area and rooms – and elephants can often be seen crossing the river. Below are some of our favorite safari cams in the Lower Zambezi, but please be sure to speak to our specialists, to find out which camp they would recommend for you.

As the park is located on the Zambezi River, there are many water-based activities that you can do during your stay. Boat safaris are a great way to enjoy the afternoon, as the temperatures are cooler, and you are often relaxed after your lunch and siesta in camp. There is also catch-and-release fishing on the Zambezi, with an accompanied guide who is available to help everyone – from beginners to experienced. Canoe safaris are also offered on the smaller channels of the Zambezi River.

On land, safari camps in the Lower Zambezi offer day and night game drives every day. Some camps offer this on a private basis, while others are on a shared basis (with no more than 6 per vehicle). Walking safaris are also included in your safari package, where you can see the smaller things in the bush, and appreciate the flora and fauna. These safari activities are all included in your inclusive package, and your guide will make a plan and recommend your schedule when you arrive in camp.

The period of June to October is when you can visit the park, but we would recommend the shoulder months in particular. The end of June is a good time to travel, as it becomes drier after the rains, and the game viewing becomes more reliable. September and early October is also a good time to visit because the predators are congregated around permanent water sources, making it an exciting safari each drive. Mid-late October becomes hotter, and November is extremely hot, so we’d recommend avoiding these times.
