Greece Small Ship Cruises 2025/26

You might be surprised to learn just how many places you can visit on a small-ship cruise in Greece. It’s an exceptional destination for island-hopping, but it’s also possible to visit enticing destinations on the mainland. There are thousands of islands scattered about the Ionian and Aegean seas, including bucket-list places like Santorini and Mykonos, while ancient sites such as Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games on the Peloponnese peninsula, can be visited too.

With a small ship Greek Island cruise you’ll enjoy sailing on elegant ships, exploring different islands and soaking up the Mediterranean sun and the incredible scenery. With only up to 148 guests, these modern ships will give you ample amount of space for relaxation as well allowing you time to mingle with fellow guests and crew.

For me, Greece is one of the best places to cruise in the world, especially on a small ship as each day brings some new and often off the usual cruise routes too.

Greece cruises are vivid and varied, with something to suit all interests. History enthusiasts will revel in itineraries exploring the many ancient, world heritage sites on offer – particularly around the Mainland and Peloponnese. For a more relaxed affair, enjoy an island-hopping cruise through the majestic Cyclades.

Our Greece cruise ships are sophisticated and extremely comfortable. These spacious ships accommodate a maximum of 148 other passengers, with a high staff-to-guest ratio ensuring the finest service to go along with the upscale ensuite cabins and attractive common areas.

Excursions take you to abandoned ruins, enchanting port towns or mountain villages, or swim stops on isolated beaches. Excursions are not typically included in the package price, so you have greater flexibility over what you’d like to see and do along the way.

Ports of Call

  • Athens

The Greek capital is widely regarded to be the birthplace of western civilization. Visiting its heart will take you back to the 5th-century BC, yet Athens is very much in the 21st century. It’s the ideal mix of ancient and modern, with iconic landmarks that most people only read about in history books and see on-screen. Visiting Acropolis Hill topped by the Parthenon and other remarkable monuments is a must, but you’ll find a wide range of neighbourhoods with local markets to browse, sidewalk cafes for people watching, casual eateries and fine dining restaurants, along with lively nightlife.

  • Mykonos

An island that calls to international jetsetters, including supermodels and yachters, Mykonos is one of the most famous Greek islands. Many come for its upscale shopping, luxury resorts, fine dining, and nightlife, with plenty of opportunities to party in buzzing clubs and right on the beach. But it also boasts gorgeous beaches, glorious sunsets, and fascinating historical sites. Outdoor adventures are plentiful too, with everything from sailing, kayaking, swimming and snorkelling to hiking and biking. Jeep excursions can bring you to hidden places with ancient ruins, while the famous windmills overlooking Little Venice provide fabulous photo-ops and magnificent views of the harbour, sea, and Chora.

  • Santorini

Santorini impresses from the very first glance. Cruising into port, you’ll be gazing up at the steep caldera cliffs and once on land, the breath-taking beauty never stops. The beaches come in an array of colours, from the black sands of Perissa to Red beach. There are opportunities for wine tours with the island producing many high-quality wines, while the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri, Santorini’s own Pompeii, offers a look at life here more than 3,500 years ago. Oia village, with its whitewashed buildings spilling down the cliffs is renowned as one of the world’s best places to watch a sunset.

  • Nafplion

Nestled in a bay along the north-east coast of the Peloponnese peninsula, Nafplion is remarkably picturesque. It’s home to postcard-perfect beaches, a spectacular Venetian fort, a booming food scene, and a fabulous historic centre with majestic neoclassical mansions, fantastic museums, bustling markets, and a host of tavernas and cafes. By climbing to the top of Palamidi Fortress, you can take in a magnificent view of the gulf, while exploring the city’s archaeological museum reveals the development of Argolis from the time of the hunter-gatherers to the Mycenaean period. Hidden behind the rock of Palamidi, is a soft, white sandy beach edged by clear turquoise water.

  • Olympia

The small town of Olympia is best known for the archaeological site nearby, the place where the very first Olympic Games were held back in 776 BC, in honour of the god Zeus. The flame for the modern games is still lit here, using the reflection of sunlight in a parabolic mirror. While there are few ruins that remain, one can still see columns, steps, and foundations at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Olympia Archaeological Museum showcases many artefacts that were uncovered here while the Museum of the History of the Olympic Games features findings from the entire area.

  • Paros

Located in the heart of the Cyclades, Paros offers diverse landscapes with rolling hills and lush valleys along with sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters. While it may not be as well known as places like Santorini, it offers beaches for everyone, from stretches like Pounds Beach known for hosting frequent music and parties. Secluded Faragas features stunning surroundings and opportunities for quiet contemplation in tiny coves that sit on either side. There are scenic trails for hiking and whitewashed towns with Cycladic cube-shaped homes draped in bougainvillea and cobbled streets lined with shops, cafes, and bars.

Best time of year to cruise the Greek Islands

The main cruising season in Greece runs from May to October each year. The months of May and October are cooler, mostly sunny and ideal if you are looking to see Greece crowd free. June and September are very popular months for cruising in Greece driven by warm pleasant weather. July and August are great months if you are after hot weather, plenty of sunshine and seeing the islands in full swing.
