Luxury Naples Tours & Vacations

Naples is the largest city in southern Italy and one of the oldest continually inhabited locations on the planet. Located in the Bay of Naples, visitors have access to picturesque islands, an active volcano, and one of the world’s most breathtaking stretches of coastline, the Amalfi Coast. Naples is bursting with ancient history and local culture, yet it still maintains its edge as a modern metropolis.

The birthplace of pizza, food is taken seriously here, with hundreds of pizzerias and countless other eateries offering a wide range of delicious eats. The scenery is spectacular, both natural and manmade. From its magnificent historic center with incredible architecture lining narrow winding streets to a charming waterfront beneath the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, it’s a powerful place everyone should visit at least once. As a popular meeting place for various peoples since ancient times, it’s a cultural hub with a truly unique magic that can be felt throughout.

Luxury Naples Tours

The birthplace of pizza, trying a slice here is a must for any visitor. It’s often said to be the world’s best, with a soft chewy crust that has slightly burnt edges. It’s not about fancy toppings, with a classic Neapolitan simply topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. To find the best pizza, look for a sign that says Vera Pizza Napoletana, a long line of locals waiting outside, and a wood-fired oven.

A spectacular city lying in the shadow of soaring Mount Vesuvius with a charming waterfront, fabulous historic center, and some of the most mouthwatering food in Italy, Naples has been a gathering place for many since ancient times. Located on the west coast of Italy facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, it’s Italy’s third-largest city and while it once had a bit of a rogue reputation, that’s changed in recent years with it undergoing a renaissance of sorts.

One of the country’s most authentic destinations, it’s a city with a story to tell, where simply wandering the streets is a great way to soak up the atmosphere, allowing it to tell its tale. It’s a cultural hub filled with magnificent art and centuries-old architecture while offering a modern side that includes outstanding nightlife.

What to do in Naples

Discover the best of Naples, from trying authentic pizza to visiting its most famous historic sites.

  • Explore the Historic Centre

One of the top things to do is explore Naples’ historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s focused around Via dei Tribunali and Spaccanapoli. You’ll discover beauty around nearly every corner, including baroque churches, ornate piazzas, and monuments like Castel Nuovo. Just roaming through the narrow alleys and streets, stumbling upon lively street markets, spectacular art, and architecture, is a delight. Of course, there are plenty of tasty bites to enjoy in between all of your exploits.

  • Try Neapolitan Pizza

With pizza birthed in Naples, one of the best things to do here is to discover your favorite slice. Eating your way through some of the countless pizzerias, found in every neighborhood, with more than 800 here, is going to take time and a big appetite, but the more you can try the better. That number can be narrowed down quite a bit by heading to some of the 100 pizzerias that are certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana.

  • Visit The Royal Palace of Naples

Officially known as Palazzo Reale, the Royal Palace sits in the heart of the city on Piazza del Plebiscito. Just one of the reasons to visit is the gardens which overlook the Bay of Naples. But you can also get a glimpse of the lavish royal lifestyle by heading inside to view opulent décor, tapestries, paintings, antiques, and more. Don’t miss the Throne Room which includes a golden throne and a private theater where the royal families enjoyed operas and plays.

  • Explore the City's Catacombs

Naples has a fascinating underground with a millennia’s worth of history. It’s riddled with tombs, tunnels, grottos, and catacombs, many of which are open to public visitors. Just north of the city center are the Catacombs of San Gennaro which are arranged on two levels and have much larger spaces than the more well-known Roman catacombs. The original nucleus dates back to the 2nd century AD and is believed to be the tomb of a noble family who provided other spaces for the Christian community.

  • Discover Castel dell’Ovo

Rising from the sea on a small island connected to the mainland by a bridge, Casstel dell’Ovo is Naples’ oldest and most impressive castle, dating to the 12th century, built in the same area occupied by a 5th-century Roman villa. It’s open for guided tours but taking a walk around the stone walls provides a great sense of its past. Just below is an ancient harbor with bars and eateries with awe-inspiring views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

  • Walk Along the Lungomare

One of the best places to stroll in the city, the Lungomare is a seafront promenade that stretches for roughly two miles between Santa Lucia and Mergellina delivering fabulous views of Mount Vesuvius, the island of Capri, and Naples. Many come to enjoy a colorful sunset followed by an evening walk, but by day, you’ll find small beaches, smooth rocks for sunbathing, boat rentals, and eateries where you’ll see locals sipping lemon granitas. Enjoy shopping and lively nightlife in the Riviera di Chiaia area.

When to go to Naples

The best time to visit Naples is anytime as it’s truly a year-round destination, with a mild, Mediterranean climate. Even during the winter, you can often enjoy sunny afternoons in the mid-50s. Provided it’s not around the Christmas holidays, visitors can enjoy fewer crowds and discounted hotel rates and airfare. The sweet spot for those who want to enjoy warm but not too hot weather without encountering big crowds or dealing with long lines is around mid-March through May and even into early June. During this period, there isn’t much rain, with the weather often idyllic. Temperatures typically range between the low 60s to the upper 70s, or even the low 80s if you come in June. Early fall can be a great time to visit Naples too. Although the chance of rain increases in October, the sea will still be warm enough for swimming through the middle of the month.
