Our Recommended Africa Honeymoon Destinations

Choosing which country to go to for your luxury African honeymoon can be overwhelming as each offers a unique and memorable safari experience. With that in mind, we would recommend these options as good places to start for your Africa safari honeymoon:

  • Botswana

Botswana has some of the most pristine and unspoiled wilderness in Africa. Botswana operates a policy of low visitor numbers, so couples to have intimate dinners under the stars, unforgettable game drives, and re-connect with nature without the crowds.

    Botswana
  • Rwanda

For those looking for a more adventurous Africa safari honeymoon, Rwanda is a great option! Located in East Africa, Rwanda is a country home to rich, vibrant forests and dense biodiversity, home to the mountain gorillas.

    Rwanda
  • Tanzania

Much of Disney’s The Lion King was inspired by the plains of the Serengeti National Park, and of course, romance blossomed between Simba and Nala. Tanzania is a great option for safari and beach honeymoons, combining Zanzibar Island.

    Tanzania
  • Kenya

Parks like the Masai Mara and Samburu National Reserve are great choices for honeymoon couples looking for fantastic game-viewing and unique accommodation. The lodges here offer privacy and remoteness, as well as good circuit discounts across Kenya.

    Kenya
  • South Africa

Cape Town and the Winelands offer gourmet restaurants and vineyards, as well as white-sand beaches all along the coast and stunning nature reserves to hike in. There are hundreds of safari lodges and camps to meet every budget and taste.

    South Africa
  • Zambia

Zambia is home to some of the densest game-viewing national parks, such as the Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa Parks. These parks offer a range of safari activities including game drives, boat safaris, walking safaris, and more!

Why An Africa Safari Makes The Perfect Africa Safari Honeymoon

Gemma

Africa Specialist

Spending your honeymoon in the wilderness of the African bush is like nothing else. The experience is unique, and with so many unforgettable experiences along the way, we promise you it will be the ultimate honeymoon! There are so many incredible safari camps and lodges across Africa to recommend for honeymoon couples. In general terms, we would recommend smaller and more intimate safari camps for honeymooners, as opposed to larger lodges. This is because they are more remote and private, but also offer a much higher level of service and personality. From the moment you arrive, the staff, managers, and guides will know your name and will make an effort to make everything perfect for you. Before we offer some suggestions, it’s important to find out what sort of accommodation you are looking for, whether that’s a luxury tented camp or a safari lodge.

When to go on a Luxury Safari Honeymoon

With so many options to choose from for your luxury Africa safari honeymoon, there is the possibility to travel year-round. Temperatures across East Africa are generally warm and pleasant throughout the year, except for added humidity before the rains arrive during April, May and November. These are months to avoid for East Africa (including Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda).

In Southern Africa, there are slightly different weather patterns. The best time to visit South Africa for your luxury honeymoon is the November to March period, which is their summer. That said, the conditions for safari are good in the winter period (June to October) as the vegetation is less dense, and sightings become more reliable. The best way to understand the best time to go on your luxury Africa honeymoon is so speak to our specialists, who will talk you through the weather patterns.

Unforgettable Experiences for your Africa Safari Honeymoon

We pride ourselves in curating a honeymoon that exceeds all expectations. We endeavor to include a handful of unique and quite simply, unforgettable experiences, to make sure each day is lived to the fullest. Although the locations for a luxury Africa safari honeymoon are remote, the lodges and safari camps can go above and beyond. Here are some of our luxury Africa safari honeymoon experiences:

  • Treehouse Sleepouts

Although you can often hear the sounds of the bush from your luxury safari camp or lodge, sleeping in a treehouse or out on a raised deck under the stars is simply magical. You’ll be served a private dinner and drinks, and after sunset, you’ll enjoy eachother’s company under a blanket of shimmering stars.

  • Champagne Sundowners

The concept of a sundowner is a very important part of your day on safari. Every evening, as the sun goes down, your safari guide will find an idyllic spot to set up a drinks table. Whether it’s a safari bar on the front of the Landcruiser, or a drinks table with a white tablecloth, champagne sundowners for honeymooners are essential.

  • Romantic Baths

There’s nothing more romantic than a bubble bath, surrounded by candles, in the middle of the wilderness. Some safari camps have particular honeymoon suites which have a private deck or veranda, featuring either a plunge pool or an outdoor bath. Offering the utmost service, you can request that the bath is run and ready for you when you return from safari.

  • Sunrise Hot Air Balloons

Hot air balloon rides are an incredible way to experience the landscape from above. The balloons take off before sunrise so from the sky, you’ll be able to glide over the vibrant reds and yellow tones that the sunrise brings, while spotting larger animals like elephants, buffalos, and large herds of antelope below you.

  • Private Spa Treatments

One of the best ways to unwind and relax is by visiting the spa! While not all safari camps have their own spa, most of them will offer spa treatments like massages. These can be done from the comfort of your room or your private deck, and a great time to enjoy a massage is between safaris in the afternoon period.

  • Candlelit Dinner in the Bush

Weather permitting, your meals are always served outside under the glistening African night sky. Often dinner is served on the main deck of the restaurant or lounge area, but for honeymoon couples, the safari camps will endeavor to serve your dinner in the comfort of your private deck or better yet – in the wilderness.

Your Luxury Safari Honeymoon Questions Answered

Where are the best safari honeymoon destinations?

For an African safari honeymoon, there are lots of options but we would recommend South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania and Kenya. These countries offer very good game-viewing experiences and the accommodation and guiding levels are very high. Generally speaking, the camps and lodges in these destinations are very experienced with honeymooners and, although we are bias, they really do offer some of the most memorable and exclusive honeymoon surprises. For example, sleeping in a luxury treehouse with elephants drinking from the waterhole below you, or private candlelit dinners overlooking the Lion King inspired expansive plains with nothing but a bottle of champagne and the sound of the bush.

Where is best to combine safari and beach on my honeymoon?

A popular choice for honeymooners is to combine a safari with a beach stay. Many safari destinations in Africa are combinable with the beach. For example, the Serengeti National Park and Zanzibar Island is a very popular combination for honeymooners travelling to Tanzania. For Kenya, you can combine a safari with the southern coast such as Mombasa or Diani Beach, fly over to Zanzibar, or fly direct from Nairobi to the Seychelles. For southern Africa, combinations with Mauritius or Mozambique work well with safaris in South Africa and Botswana. We will arrange all of the logistics, from the beach accommodation to the internal flights and transfers to make your honeymoon completely stress-free.

Which lodges are best for an African safari honeymoon?

There are so many incredible safari camps and lodges across Africa to recommend for honeymoon couples. In general terms, we would recommend smaller and more intimate safari camps for honeymooners, as opposed to larger and more chain-like lodges. This is because they are more remote and private, but also offer a much higher level of service and personality. From the moment you arrive, the staff, managers and guides will know your name and will make an effort to make everything perfect for you. Before we offer some suggestions, it’s important to find out what sort of accommodation you are looking for, whether that’s a luxury tented camp or a safari lodge.
