Top 10 most ‘Instagrammable’ spots in Europe

A continent of ancient landmarks, romantic islands, and unique architecture, Europe really does have it all. Home to 44 countries, where you visit and what you do in Europe can be completely different to somebody else’s trip. Whether it is a city break, a beach trip, a countryside hike or a historic tour, Europe offers some iconic viewpoints and subjects to photograph. Getting the perfect Instagram shot in Europe is easily achieved and for inspiration, here are some of the top 10 most Instagrammable spots on the continent.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini is one of the most popular Greek islands and, with both natural and architectural beauty, it’s clear to see why. Thousands of people visit Santorini each year and, whether it’s part of a Greek cruise or a stand-alone destination, the picture-perfect island is always showing off its best angles. What makes it so Instagrammable? Its whitewashed buildings, cliff-edge villages and blue-domed churches are the first things that come to mind. That said, it’s glistening ocean and dramatic cliffs are also contribute to Santorini’s pleasing aesthetics.  

Venice, Italy

Nicknamed the ‘Floating City’, Venice is one of the most picturesque destinations in Europe. Historic and religious buildings border the waterways and as the sun sets, the city is illuminated with red, pink and blue tones. The city boasts charm and romance all year round, and a gondola ride is a great way to explore Venice’s canals and hidden waterways. Whether it’s the subect of the iconic landmarks like Saint Mark’s Basilicia, wandering the square of Piazza San Marco or floating through the canals, it will certainly make for a great photograph.

The capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is charming in every way. Thousands travel to Lisbon every year to enjoy the European sunshine, wander through historic alleyways and enjoy the best of Portugal’s food and wine. In fact, Lisbon has been regarded as an up-and-coming destination for wine enthusiasts and a trip to the capital would not be fulfilled without a vineyard tour and a wine tasting experience. 

Edinburgh, Scotland

With so much history, beautiful landscapes and romantic architecture, Edinburgh has it all. The Old Town of Edinburgh is home to local restaurants, independent bars, cute squares and cobbled streets that are so perfect for exploring. As you wander Scotland’s’ capital city, you’ll come across castles, monuments and museums. Perhaps though, the best spot for an Instagram-worthy photo is from the top of Arthur’s Seat. Hike the hill to the very top and look over the at the city center.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

A connected web of canals, alleyways and squares, Amsterdam is a city high on most people’s European bucket list. Located in the west of The Netherlands, Amsterdam is famous for its art (home to the largest Van Gogh collection), café culture and the hundreds of bikes that you end up dancing and swerving around. 

 

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Known famously as the ‘Pearl of the Atlantic’, Dubrovnik is one of the most visited spots in Croatia and has become increasingly popular as a European city break. This was certainly influenced by the release of the Game of Thrones TV series which became so popular across the world. The walled city, the cliff bars, the ancient ruins and medieval architecture are just some of the key features of Dubrovnik, making it one of the most Instagrammable spots in Europe.

Prague, Czech Republic

As the capital city of Czech Republic and one of the largest cities in Central Europe, it’s no wonder that thousands fly to Prague each year to wander through the historical buildings, explore the museums and national theatre, and cross the iconic bridges into the Old Town. By night, Prague offers countless beer gardens, nightclubs and trendy bars around each corner. Whether you are visiting with your partner, by yourself or with a group of friends, there is something for everyone in Prague.  

Grenada, Spain

Granada is a city in southern Spain, famous for its unique architecture and jaw-dropping views. The city homes some incredible architectural buildings – perfect for an Instagram shot. The Alhambra, the old city wall, the Albaicin (the old Arabic residential quarter), and the Arabic baths to name a few. One of the best (and less discovered views of Granada) is from Sacromonte. This is an area further out, offering breathtaking views of Granada.

Strasbourg, France

Whereas Paris can be ridiculously busy at times (especially the summer months), Strasbourg in the northeast of France is certainly worth considering as an alternative. It offers so much authenticity, romance and architectural heritage. The old town is a maze of cobbled streets, historical steeples and very quant houses and shops. Picture-perfect shots can be taken from almost anyway in Strasbourg but especially along the Ill River. 

Tuscany, Italy

Located in central Italy, Tuscany is a breath of fresh air amongst tourist-filled cities in Italy. While the city itself is home to cultural buildings and charming spots, a trip to the Tuscany countryside is a must-do. With rolling hills, misty landscapes and never-ending local vineyards, it makes for a perfect Instagram photo. Tuscany is a large area, so some key destinations to head to include the Chianti Region, the Island of Elba and San Gimignano to name a few.
