Luxury Okavango Delta Safaris

One of the best things about the Okavango Delta is that it is so remote. Located in northern Botswana, the park and its surrounding private reserves are accessible via light aircraft planes and helicopters. These small planes make it possible to get to remote plains, where your safari guide will be waiting on arrival. For those traveling from Europe or the States to Botswana, a good option is to fly to Johannesburg in South Africa, where you can then take a direct flight to Maun in Botswana. From Maun, we will organize a light aircraft plane to take you into the Okavango Delta.

Because of the remoteness of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, I would recommend spending a minimum of 4 nights on safari here. The great thing about the Okavango Delta is that there are so many different landscapes, private reserves, and waterways that make up the reserve. Because of this, you can combine two or three areas and safari camps to give you a different experience. With that in mind, we’d recommend a combination of two camps, both with 3-4 nights in. You can also combine other safari destinations with your luxury Botswana safari, such as Chobe National Park in Botswana, or neighboring countries with safari destinations like the Kruger in South Africa, Mana Pools in Zimbabwe and the Lower Zambezi in Zambia.

The Okavango Delta is a huge area of floodplains and waterways, and the water levels from the Angola floods fluctuate throughout the year which means it changes dramatically. With this in mind, some luxury safari camps are located in areas with much higher water levels. These are regarded ‘wet’ camps as they allow you to do water-based activities throughout the year, including boat safaris, fishing, and mokoro rides. The ‘dry’ camps are located on areas that are less prone to flooding, which means that you can do activities on land throughout the year, including game drives (morning and afternoon) and walking safaris.
