How much does a safari in Uganda cost?

One of the main highlights of Uganda, and included on almost every itinerary, is a trek through Bwindi National Park to see the mountain gorillas. With only 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the wild today, and only three countries to see them in, it’s no surprise that many decide to visit Uganda for this reason alone. Uganda is the cheaper of the two (compared to Rwanda) to do the gorilla trek. A gorilla permit is currently $750 per person per trek, which allows you to have one hour with the gorillas in the forest.

If you want to do a gorilla trek alone, you can fly in and out of Bwindi National Park and spend two nights in mid range safari accommodation. With internal flights and accommodation, you could do a gorilla trek in Uganda for anywhere between $3-4,000 per person, but this would be a very short trip.

This higher budget allows you to travel around more of the country. Combine destinations like Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest, Bwindi Forest and Entebbe or Kampala. A larger budget also allows you to visit remote parks like Kidepo National Park which is located on the north of the country, bordering South Sudan. To get to this park, you have to take internal flights which add to the cost of the itinerary.
