Why we love private tours of Bali

It may be one of 17,000 islands in the Indonesian archipelago, Bali stands out with words like “paradise” and “nirvana” often used to describe it. Only about 1.5 miles from the eastern tip of Java, just west of Lombok, this lush island is an ideal destination for travelers on a budget as well as those with money to spend.

Many come for the beautiful beaches, diving, surfing, and activity-filled resorts, it offers much more than a sun-soaked retreat. From the vibrant nightlife in Kuta to soaring mountains laced with waterfalls and sparkling lakes, verdant rice fields, ancient temples, and exotic wildlife, not to mention the out-of-this-world food and drink, it’s on many travelers’ bucket lists.

While the beauty might take the spotlight, the locals with their genuine, warm smiles and incredible hospitality make Bali a place that many feel compelled to visit again and again.

Best places to go in Bali

Where to start? Discover Ubud for art and rice terraces, Uluwatu for stunning cliffs, Seminyak for vibrant nightlife, and Nusa Dua for luxurious resorts. The central heartlands of Sidemen and Munduk offer lush adventures, while the quiet beaches such as Manggis and Sanur offer sun-soaked relaxation.

  • Ubud

The cultural and artistic heart of Bali, Ubud offers world-beating accommodations, spa, and dining, set amongst lush rice terraces, vibrant markets, and sacred temples.

  • Munduk

The serene highland regions around Munduk enchant with lush coffee plantations, serene waterfalls, and a tranquil atmosphere, offering respite from the island’s bustling coastal areas.

  • Pemuteran

The tranquil north-western coast of Bali is known for its pristine beaches and vibrant coral reefs. Nearby Menjangan Island offers exceptional diving experiences amidst diverse marine life.

  • Sanur

This laidback coastal resort was the original Bali beach destination. Calm beaches, a scenic promenade, and high-class accommodations make it a compelling destination spot to this day.

  • Seminyak

Contrasting Seminyak exudes chic sophistication, a busier but upscale beach area featuring trendy beach clubs, designer boutiques, and a lively dining scene.

  • Candi Dasa

Over on the east coast, Candi Dasa is a tranquil and pristine beach area, with a serene waterfront, excellent snorkeling, and a laidback atmosphere.

Best time to visit Bali

Sitting close to the Equator, Bali has a tropical climate that offers hot weather year-round. The best time to visit Bali is during the drier months from April to October. May to August offers particularly pleasant weather, making it ideal for outdoor activities and beach excursions. The wetter months from November to March, bring occasional heavy rains, but it’s also when the island is at its most lush and green.

Keep in mind that Bali is a popular destination, so if you prefer fewer crowds, consider planning your trip during the shoulder months of April, May, September, or October when the weather is still favorable, and the tourist influx is lower.

What to do in Bali

Bali is a paradise for adventurous travelers, offering wild jungles, active volcanos, misty lakes, and an abundance of waterfalls. There is something here for everyone: outdoor adventurers, surfers, hikers, history buffs, night owls, families, and honeymooners. There are plenty of opportunities for lazy days of sunbathing, luxury spa treatments, or just hanging out sipping cocktails while gazing at the jaw-dropping scenery.

  • Ricefield hike & cooking class with a Brahmin priest

Meet a respected local priest and Keliki artist for a hike through placid villages, spice plantations, and verdant forests, arriving at a local home where you’ll enjoy a fabulous local lunch. Tour the gardens and vegetable plots of the home, then get hands-on to help prepare your own meal.

  • Snorkeling tour of Nusa Penida

Visible on the horizon all across the southeast coast, the Nusa islands are three sparsely populated outcrops that offer a rugged, wild escape from busy Bali. The islands are renowned for their vibrant marine life, pristine coral reefs, breathtaking landscapes, and tranquil beaches.

  • Sunrise hike of Mt Batur

Gunung Batur allures tourists with its physical beauty and opportunity for adventure. The peak is reached via a moderate trek and is rewarded with incredible dawn views of central Bali, and across to the Nusa islands, all from the viewpoint of an active volcano.
