The Perfect Two Weeks in Bali

Just the mention of Bali summons up visions of tropical paradise. The ‘Island of the Gods’ is one of the world’s great travel destinations: rich in culture, adventure, alluring scenery, and magnificent hotels.

Whether you’re looking for culture, adventure, scenery, or relaxation, there’s a perfect Bali itinerary to suit. We recommend spending a solid two weeks in Bali to make sure you get the best of the island, but with so much on offer, it can be hard to know where to start.

We’ve broken down the best aspects of Bali below. Get in touch with our dedicated Bali experts today, and let us know what your perfect two-week itinerary would look like!

Culture

The Balinese are famed for their distinctive culture. A blend of Hinduism, ancient Buddhism, and animistic mythology, Bali is a truly unique destination that stands apart from the rest of Indonesia.

This is best witnessed in the array of magnificent temples and palaces dotted all across the island. Enjoy sunset at the famed Tanah Lot on Bali’s west coast, or at the far southern Uluwatu temple, where you’ll also get to see daily Kecak fire dances.

Food

In a similar vein, Balinese cuisine is distinctly different from the rest of Indonesia. Typical Southeast Asian ingredients are present – coconut, garlic, ginger, chili, lemongrass – but with a more delicate and varied flavoring,

Furthermore, a majority Hindu population means that pork is back on the menu – meat-eaters should not miss babi guling, succulent spit-roasting suckling pig.

We highly recommend a Balinese cooking class for all visitors to the island – foodie or otherwise. Classes provide new skills and dishes to take back home with you and usually conclude with a delicious meal, in equally sumptuous surroundings.

Beaches

Bali is famous above all else for its beaches. Ringed on all sides by gorgeous black and white sand beaches, you’re definitely not spoiled for choice, with a cove or resort to suit all tastes and demographics.

An enticing array of activities and day trips are possible all around the island. Each location has its own specific appeal, but typically you’ll be able to choose from a variety of snorkeling or diving trips, rice field treks, cooking classes, village walks, or cultural tours.

Wildlife & Nature

Interior Bali is equally – if not even more – alluring. Rolling rice fields, soaring volcanoes, dense jungles, cascading waterfalls…we encourage guests to get out and explore as much as possible!

There’s also plenty of wildlife present, particularly in the island’s more remote corners. Animal lovers should consider spending time in the West Bali National Park, a mix of mangroves, dry forest, and savannah which is home to over 100 species of wildlife and 300 species of birdlife.

Adventures on land...

Bali is an adventurer’s paradise -,you’re not short on choice if looking for adrenaline-fuelled activities here!

All that gorgeous countryside is ripe for exploration on foot or by bike. Our favorite hikes are around the rice paddies and waterfalls of Gobleg and Munduk; while by bike we love the run from the slopes of Mount Batur down to Ubud.

There’s great kayaking around Ubud, quad-biking from Sidemen, white water rafting around Candi Dasa (especially fun in the rainy season!), surfing lessons from Canggu, and a dramatic zip-line run around Nusa Ceningan too.

...and under the sea

Bali is an underwater paradise too, offering snorkeling and diving to rival anywhere else in Asia.

From the south coast beaches, take a full day trip across to the Nusa Islands for rocky coral and dramatic viewpoints. From the north and east coast, dive into off-shore coral and mysterious wrecks around Amed and Tulamben.

We also love diving around Menjangan island, just off Pemuteran, an area which ties in nicely with nature walks in the West Bali National Park.

Note: don’t forget you’ll need ample travel insurance to cover any adventure activities during your trip.

Relaxation

After all that excitement, you’ll need time to simply sit back and chill…or maybe a relaxing, luxurious two weeks is all you’re looking for!

Naturally, Bali truly excels here too. Bali’s hotels are truly fantastic, with the best offering world-beating spas – you simply cannot leave the island without trying Balinese massage – yoga classes, infinity pools, and excellent food and drink.

If you’re spending extended time in established tourist areas such as Ubud, Sanur, or Kuta you’ll find lots of gentle activities – such as cooking classes, yoga, art exhibitions – right on your doorstep.

For the ultimate relaxing day out, rent a scooter locally and take yourself off on a mini-adventure through dramatic rice terraces and postcard-perfect villages.
