Best time to visit Jordan

Spring (March to May) and Fall (September to November) offer mild temperatures, making it ideal for extensive exploration. However, these seasons tend to draw larger crowds.

Summer (June to August) and Winter (December to February) are less popular due to extreme temperatures but offer fewer tourists. You’ll be rewarded with a more intimate experience if you can handle the elements. A complete season-by-season guide can be found here.

Your Jordan questions answered

How many days should I plan for a vacation in Jordan?

In a little over a week, you can uncover Jordan’s treasures, from Amman’s Roman and Crusader ruins to the awe-inspiring archaeological marvels of Petra, the otherworldly beauty of Wadi Rum’s desert landscapes, and the restorative Dead Sea waters. With extra time, embrace the scenic splendors of Dana or unwind on the idyllic Red Sea beaches.

Do I need a visa to enter Jordan?

Jordan issues single entry visas, valid for one month on arrival at the cost of 40JD (Jordanian Dinar) and you will need to ensure that your passport has at least 6 months of validity after you return home in order to be allowed to enter the country. It is also worth noting that a departure tax of 10JD (Jordanian Dinar) is required for exit through land and sea border points.

Is Jordan a safe destination for tourists?

Jordan is not only one of the safest countries to travel to in the Middle East, it offers staggering beauty and incredible diversity historically, culturally, and in its landscape. Unlike its neighbors, Jordan has no large oil reserves from which to profit, meaning that tourism has taken a front seat, especially in the last three decades. Jordanians are generally more collective-minded and conservative than the West, so crime, in general, is lower. Foreign visitors who take the same sensible, common-sense approach that they would when visiting any new city or country will almost certainly have a completely stress-free trip.

How should I dress to respect local customs and traditions in Jordan?

Jordan, while less conservative than some Muslim-majority countries, appreciates modest attire to honor its cultural norms. Regardless of gender, it’s advisable to cover your shoulders and knees when in public. Given Jordan’s swiftly shifting weather, packing layers is prudent to prepare for sudden shifts between sunny spells and rain showers. When visiting a mosque, women are expected to cover their hair as a sign of respect.

What is the currency in Jordan, and where can I exchange money?

Jordan’s currency is known as the Jordanian Dinar often written as JD. We would suggest avoiding street money changers. ATMs are generally the best option for obtaining the local currency and are readily available. They often offer the best rate. Many of the higher-end hotels will accept Euros or US Dollars but you’ll pay more than you will in Jordanian Dinars. MasterCard and Visa, are accepted, but typically only larger hotels and restaurants, and tourist areas in Amman readily accept credit cards for payment, but using them can incur transaction fees adding to the total amount.
