Spain really does have it all, with just about everything one looks for in a travel destination, with diverse and spectacular landscapes, including white sandy beaches. With over 5,000 miles of coast, this country is blessed with practically an endless array of them.

From the exquisite dunes of Tarifa and the celebrity-filled beach clubs in Ibiza to the Costa del Sol and fabulously undeveloped Costa Blanca, there are many opportunities to spend your days soaking up the sun and the sand.

But this country isn’t only about the great outdoors, it has a rich history, fascinating cultural traditions that include lively fiestas all year long, and plenty of magnificent art and architecture to explore.

Spain’s fascinating history is well-preserved in many of its museums and buildings. From its rich Moorish past and the Spanish Golden Age with its position as a world superpower to the more recent horrors of the Spanish Civil War and its return to democracy, there’s plenty to explore.

You’ll find one of the best examples of Moorish architecture in the world in Cordoba – UNESCO-listed Mezquita is a Mosque-Cathedral that reveals its historic position as the greatest Moorish city in all of Europe, with some sections that date as far back as the 8th-century.

Spain is also a gastronomic delight. You’ll have to experience tapas here as there is no place like it, probably much different than what you’d find at any tapas eatery you have at home. If you order a drink at nearly any bar, you’ll even get a free tapas plate.

The pintxo scene in San Sebastian is famous worldwide, a good spot to go for sampling those incredible bite-sized portions, alongside a glass of the local txakoli, the holy grail of wines to order here.

FAQs

What is the best time to go to Spain?

Spain is truly a year-round destination, but spring and autumn offer an excellent balance of nice weather and fairly light crowds. Keep an eye on the calendar as there are many festivals during these months which can make for an interesting cultural experience, but it can also increase prices and create crowds that you’d rather avoid.
If spending time on the beach or by the sea if your goal, summer is best but keep in mind touring the major cities in these months is not ideal as it is often hot and crowded.

What is the best way to see Spain and Portugal?

Spain’s high-speed trains are efficient and comfortable and transport you from the city center to the city center. When they’re available on your routes, it’s the best way to travel. Unfortunately, the high-speed train network doesn’t go everywhere, so you can take advantage of low-cost flights within Spain on Vueling or Iberia. It’s also possible to rent a car and self-drive or hire a private driver though the cost of a driver for long distances is usually expensive. Portugal is a much smaller country and therefore driving -whether on your own or with a private driver – is often the best way to get around. There are trains as well as flights that connect the major cities of Porto in the north, Faro in the south, and Lisbon in the center of the country.

How much will a trip to Spain cost?

This obviously depends on how long you plan to go for and what standard of accommodation you want, but you should expect to pay around $500 per day. This includes all accommodation in a 4 or 5* hotel, meals in good quality restaurants, and private tours.

How many days is enough for Spain trip?

You could probably spend your whole life exploring Spain, but we’d recommend between 10 and 14 days. With 3 nights in Barcelona and Madrid and then town to explore the historic cities of beautiful Andalucia, including Seville and Granada. Of course, it’s possible to enjoy a shorter trip focusing on just one or two cities or regions, or extend your stay to experience more of what Spain has to offer.
