Singapore is an island of contrasts. The downtown core may have a sci-fi cityscape of gleaming skyscrapers and glistening sparkling-clean streets, but tucked away amongst the towers you’ll find enticing green spaces, atmospheric multi-ethnic religious centers, and historic shophouses.

Chinatown
In the heart of downtown, Singapore’s Chinatown is a sensory explosion, teeming with smoke-infused temples and delectable street food.
Little India
Immediately adjacent is Little India: the historic home to the island’s Tamil community, offering endless textile stores and colorful south Indian gopurams.
Kampong Glam

Best time to visit Singapore

Singapore sits right on the equator and has a hot, tropical climate all year round. There are no distinct seasons, and never really a bad time to travel. Also, given Singapore’s popularity as a stopover destination, you’re more likely to be led by good weather in your onward destination, whether it’s the summer months for Bali and Indonesia, or winter months for Thailand, Cambodia, and Indochina. Remember that Singapore’s indoor attractions (shopping malls, museums, restaurants, etc.) are open year-round, so there’s plenty to do even during the wetter months.

What to do in Singapore

No matter how long you spend in Singapore, you won’t ever be short of things to do. In Singapore’s downtown neighborhoods, you’ll find bustling markets, art galleries, and independent designers. Shopping is known as the national sport of Singaporeans, with shopping districts and dedicated malls for all budgets and interests.
