Day by Day Itinerary
- Day 1
Delhi: Fast-track arrival service and private transfer to your hotel
Welcome to Delhi! You’ll be met immediately off the plane and escorted through fast-track immigration, baggage, and customs formalities, ensuring your arrival in India is as seamless as possible. Then meet your private driver and an Unforgettable Travel local representative and be transferred to your hotel in the heart of New Delhi.
The rest of the day is spent at leisure to recover from the flight. However, should you wish to explore locally, the hotel is within walking distance of the Gandhi Museum (closed on a Monday) and a short auto ride from Khan Market, a local and expat hang-out, which is full of a variety of shops and restaurants, and Lodhi Gardens if you fancy stretching your legs. If you’d prefer to relax, there’s a swimming pool and a choice of restaurants.

- Day 2
Delhi: Immersive tour of Old & New Delhi
Your introduction to Delhi will be a busy but fascinating day. Visit Old Delhi, the beautiful Jama Masjid, one of the biggest mosques in Asia, visit Chandni Chowk and take a cycle rickshaw ride through the labyrinth of packed and seemingly chaotic streets. However, you will come to see that it’s not quite as disorderly as it appears, with streets organized into stores offering stationery, utensils, wedding items, and more.
New Delhi is in complete contrast, known for its colonial architecture and rubbing shoulders with cathedrals, gurudwaras, temples, and Mughal monuments. You’ll be taken to visit Humayun’s Tomb, the soaring Qutb Minar, and then enjoy a drive by India Gate and the New Parliament buildings.
Return to the hotel for the evening at leisure. There are lots of restaurants around to choose from. Or have dinner at the hotel for tomorrow’s early start.
- Day 3
Agra: Fast train to Agra; afternoon tour of Agra Fort & the Taj Mahal
Make an early start today with a transfer to Nizamuddin Station for the onward fast train to Agra. Our representative will see you onto the train for the two-and-a-half-hour journey speeding through rural Uttar Pradesh to Agra Cantanoment Station, where you’ll be met off the train and transferred to the hotel.
There will be an opportunity to freshen up before heading out for your afternoon sightseeing. Visit the extraordinary Agra Fort, which was the primary residence for the Mughal emperors until they shifted from Agra to Delhi in 1638. Afterward, head to the highlight of Agra: the Taj Mahal. Poetry in white marble, watch as the colors are reflected by the setting sun as the birds swoop and fly overhead on their way to roost for the evening. This is a magical time to visit this world-famous monument.
- Day 4
Jaipur: Road journey to Jaipur, visiting Abhaneri stepwell en route
After breakfast, you will set off by road to the famed pink city of Jaipur, home to one of the most important royal families of the state, the capital of Rajasthan, and the gateway into the rest of this remarkable region.
Along the way, you will stop at the staggering Abhaneri stepwell. In a crowded field, Abhaneri is perhaps the most staggering of northern India’s stepwells – remarkable architectural features that descend into the earth to provide fresh drinking water in the desert. Abhaneri has around 3,500 steps and descends some 100ft, and was the inspiration for the prison frequented by Christian Bale’s Batman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
Arrive in Jaipur mid-afternoon and check into your haveli hotel in the heart of the old city. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Accommodation Options:
- Day 5
Jaipur: Guided tour of the ‘Pink City’
Today, you will be joined by a private local guide to explore the fascinating sights of Jaipur. Begin at the incredible Amber Fort and marvel at its courtyard’s architecture and spectacular views; visit the City Palace, resplendent in artifacts and photos showcasing its royal past, an insight into how life used to be for the royals of Rajasthan. Also, visit the observatory, the largest in the world, which is still accurate to within a couple of minutes.
Drive by and have a photo stop at the Iconic Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds. This beautiful facade allowed the ladies of the royal family who used to observe purdah to watch the proceedings and processions in the streets below without being seen. Take some time to explore the bazaars; Jaipur is a fun shopping destination famous for its block printing, blue pottery, jewelry, and much more.
- Day 6
Shahpura: Road journey into rural Rajasthan & sundowners at Dhikola Fort
After a leisurely breakfast, your driver escort south of Jaipur and into rural Rajasthan. A 4-hour drive takes you to Shahpura Bagh: a garden estate that was formerly the summer home of the rulers of Shahpura.
Hidden halfway between Udaipur and Jaipur, Shahpura is a quiet rural oasis with a wonderful setting, surrounded by numerous lakes, some of which the family’s ancestors created with incredible foresight. It’s a place to appreciate offbeat Rajasthan from the comfort of a beautiful, regal home.
Arrive, check in, enjoy tea and snacks, and have some time by the pool, one of the finest in Rajasthan. In the evening, enjoy sundowners at Dhikola Fort, the one-time fortification protecting the family from the rampaging marauders!
Accommodation Options:
- Day 7
Shahpura: Free day to relax in style or arrange activities through the hotel
Today is a day at leisure for you to do as much or as little as you like. There are plenty of activities on offer: a walk around the local town to meet the artisans, bird walks, cycle rides, and jeep rides to the nearby orchard farm with snacks served in the shade of the trees.
Alternatively, once you’ve seen the elegant Art Deco pool, you may decide it’s the best place to spend the day. Kick back with a good book and enjoy the excellent hospitality!
- Day 8
Udaipur: Road transfer to Udaipur via the Ranakpur temples
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast today to soak up the last of this refined location, then continue by road to Udaipur.
On the way, we recommend a stop to explore Chittorgarh Fort. Situated on top of a 180m plateau and covering over 240 hectares, it is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan. It is definitely imposing and comes with countless stories of battles, bravery, and tragedies of the past. To reach the fort, you must drive along a one-kilometer road winding through foothills and seven gates before reaching Rampol (gate of Ram), one of the entry gates still in use. The Fort was only attacked three times: a failed attempt in 1303, followed by another failed attempt in 1535, and finally, it was Akbar who was successful in 1568. It was at this point that Rana Udaisingh escaped to Udaipur to establish a new capital.
Continue onto Udaipur, set amidst the Aravali Hills and numerous lakes. You’ll arrive at your lakefront haveli hotel in the late afternoon and have the rest of the day to relax.
Accommodation Options:
- Day 9
Udaipur: Guided tour of the City Palace, Jagdish Temple, and Sahelion-ki-Bari
The city of Udaipur in the land of Mewar is Rajasthan’s most romantic city. From your hotel you will have been looking over the City Palace Complex; today, your private guide will take you to explore the complex as well as Sahelion-Ki-Bari and the extraordinary and beautiful Jagdish Temple. There will be time to stroll around the streets of the old town before ending the day with a boat ride back to your hotel and then dinner at one of the hotel’s beautiful restaurants.
- Day 10
Goa: Fly to Goa and transfer to your beach hotel
After breakfast you’ll be transferred to Udaipur Airport for your flight south to Goa. On arrival, you’ll be met by a new driver who will transfer you privately to your beach hotel in the beach town of Candolim.
Soaring palm trees, verdant paddy fields, Portuguese houses, churches, markets, and, of course, sun-dappled beaches, the tiny state of Goa makes its mark both as a beautiful beach destination but also as a fun place to explore. Once checked in you have the rest of the day free to relax around the pool, walk down the beach, or potter the streets of Candolim.
Accommodation Options:
- Days 11 & 12
Goa: Days at leisure on the beach
These days are at leisure to explore Goa independently. Goa, a small coastal state in India, is a truly one-of-a-kind destination. Once a hotspot for backpackers and hippies, and later flooded with package holidaymakers, the region is now experiencing a revival with an influx of stylish and comfortable boutique hotels popping up throughout the quiet, unspoiled stretches of the coast and the scenic interior, surrounded by lush hills and paddy fields.
Occupied by the Portuguese for more than five centuries, the area still strongly reflects their influence, particularly in religion with its many colonial churches, and in cuisine with the introduction of chilies, giving birth to the famous dish of vindaloo.
Despite coming under Indian rule in 1961, Goa maintains a distinct character, known for its laid-back and relaxed approach to life, reflected in the local expression of “susegad”. The destination can be roughly divided into the busy north and the less-developed and more traditional south, but there are many attractions to discover across the entire state.
- Day 13
Mumbai: Fly up to Mumbai; transfer to your hotel with Dhobi Ghat tour en route
After breakfast, you will be escorted back to Goa Airport for the short flight back up India’s western flank to Mumbai. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in the center of India’s maximum city!
On the way into the city visit the Dhobi Ghat: India’s largest, open-air laundry. Mumbai seems like chaos personified, with busy streets, crazy traffic, and people everywhere. Yet, as is often the case with India, break it down into its parts, and it starts to make sense. Mumbai has the second highest number of Art Deco buildings outside Miami, colonial architecture, Hindu temples, hidden Portuguese villages, and much more. Just a walk on its streets is heady, the street food and stalls, people going about their day, couples sitting gazing out to sea, and businesspeople shouting into their phones.
- Day 14
Mumbai
After breakfast, you will meet up with a private guide and head out to explore India’s most enthralling city. Begin at Victoria Terminus – also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, or CST. This architectural marvel is a UNESCO Heritage Site, and a hallmark of the Victorian Gothic style on par with Paddington or St. Pancras.
Continue on foot down DN Road, also called the Heritage Mile. DN Road is one of the oldest parts of the city, reminiscent of its colonial past, and your walk here will culminate at the ornate Flora Fountain. Continue to explore the charming historic district of Kala Ghoda, with its many Gothic buildings and numerous art galleries. From here, head on to the Gateway of India, an icon of Mumbai that has greeted visitors to Indian shores since 1911.
From the Gateway, you will reunite with your driver and conclude the afternoon with a drive around the Oval Maidan, where in a great phalanx lie the Old Secretariat, University Library and Convocation Hall, High Court Building, the old PWD Building, and Telegraph Department.
Return to your hotel in the early afternoon and have the rest of the day free to relax or continue exploring independently.
- Day 15
Mumbai: Private departure transfer
