10 Best Night Markets in Bangkok

As well as a mesmerizing selection of historic sites, cultural attractions, fantastic hotels, and world-beating spas, Bangkok is a shopping and dining paradise. 

While the city’s shopping malls are cool and sanitized, here at UTC we have a particular penchant for Bangkok’s popular night markets. Found all across the city, these markets serve up a wide variety of stalls, great food, live music, and entertainment – great for a full night out!

Asiatique the Riverfont

As the name suggests, the Asiatique the Riverfront sits on the banks of the Chaophraya: south of the city center core, facing the excellent Anantara Riverside Resort. 

This modern market resembles an outdoor shopping mall with shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants representing both international and local brands. Entertainment is a major feature too, with a puppet show, cabaret, and giant observation wheel.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

The largest and most famous of Bangkok’s night markets, Chatuchak – also known as Jatujak, or simply ‘JJ’ – houses a staggering 15,000 stalls in its pomp will serve around 200,000 visitors each weekend. 

The market is open each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and has a hugely diverse range of stalls selling antiques, cosmetics, food, drinks, furniture, clothing, books, and even pets.

Train Night Market Srinagarindra

Bangkok’s famous ‘Talad Rot Fai’ – train night markets – are found in three distinct locations across the city. The largest and oldest is found here in the Srinakarin district, opposite the Seacon Square shopping center. 

The semi-outdoor market is more of a ‘hangout spot’, with lots of small eateries, bars, and live music. Way out east of Bangkok city center, Rot Fai Srinakarin is a bit of a trek and as such serves mostly young Bangkoktes rather than tourists. 

Train Night Market Ratchada

For an alternative closer to central Bangkok, the sister train market at Ratchada is smaller in scale but equally lively. With an MRT station sitting immediately opposite, you can be here in under an hour from all city center hotels. 

This open-air bazaar has the same dining and drinking facilities, as well as a whole host of stalls and pitches selling vintage clothes, antiques, curios, toys, and records.

Patpong Night Market

Situated in Bangkok’s most legendarily seedy district, a venture in Patpong is not for the faint-hearted…but is very fun! 

Sitting alongside the go-go bars and clubs for which Patpong is (in)famous, the market sells mostly cheap souvenirs and fake branded items. It’s just a few steps from Sala Daeng MRT station in the heart of the modern Silom district – easily accessed from any hotels in the Silom, Sathon, or Sukhumvit areas.

Khao San Road

The legendary backpacker ghetto Khao San is a pulsating place to visit night and day. Packed with budget accommodation, bars, tourist shops, tattoo parlors, and tailors, it is a fun palace to dip in and out of – especially so after dark.

Khao San is a great place to eat too, with food stalls all along the strip serving up hearty budget favorites such as pad thai, spring rolls, bbq skewers, sticky Thai desserts, and fresh fruit. 

Yaowarat Road Night Market

Speaking of food…arguably the best district of Bangkok to dive into for pure foodie pleasure is here in Yaowarat: Bangkok’s Chinatown. 

In this market, the focus is 100% on filling your belly. Bangkok’s Chinese community is well represented, but you’ll also find dishes from all across the Thai and Southeast Asian palate. Enjoy oyster omelets, Thai toast, grilled seafood, velvety noodle soups, curries, dim sum, and super sweet desserts.

ArtBox Bangkok

Opened in summer 2019, ArtBox brought a trendy new approach to Bangkok’s night market scene, with multiple shipping containers housing a wide array of stalls and global eateries. 

Having moved around several spots across the city, the latest site is opposite BTS Nana. Note that as of July 2021, ArtBox is currently closed due to a severe lack of footfall during the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope it will open again soon when travel returns!

Talad Neon

Translating as ‘Neon Market’, it’s hard to miss Talad Neon with its brightly illuminated signage visible all across the surrounding Pratunam District.

There’s more of a fleamarket feel here, with plenty of kitsch homeware and retro fashion. Regular live music, shipping containers, and funky lighting throughout complete the youthful atmosphere.

Chang Chui Plane Market

We end on Bangkok’s most intriguing night market at Chang Chui. The ‘plane market’ has all the usual stalls and eateries, with the addition of numerous modern art sculptures and installations.

At the heart of the market is a retired Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, replete with flume slides, swings, and a stage for live performances! Chang Chui is translated as ‘messy artisan’, which is very appropriate for this ‘creative park’ across the Chaophraya in the Thonburi district.
