Luxury Rwanda Honeymoons

Rwanda offers an exciting and unique honeymoon destination for adventurous couples. Key attractions include trekking through Volcanoes National Park to witness mountain gorillas, exploring Nyungwe’s captivating forests, and embarking on a safari in Akagera National Park. Many honeymoon couples opt to combine Rwanda with Tanzania for a comprehensive experience, starting with gorilla encounters in Volcanoes National Park and then venturing to Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, or with a beach destination such as Zanzibar Island or Indian Ocean Islands like Seychelles or Mauritius.

For honeymoon couples who are active and looking for an adventure, then Rwanda is a great option. With limited gorilla permits available per day, we’d recommend booking well in advance – anywhere from 9 – 12 months if possible. We will organize everything in-country, so the moment you land in Kigali, you’ll have a meet and greet service and a seamlessly-planned luxury Rwanda honeymoon.

Where to Go in Rwanda

  • Akagera National Park

Although this is the largest national park in Rwanda, it is still relatively new in the safari world. Incredible teams like African Parks have taken control of the park and are constantly monitoring and working on ways to improve the ecosystem and biodiversity.

  • Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is located in the northwest of the country and is very recognized and renowned. The landscape of the Volcanoes is simply breathtaking, from with soaring mountains to expansive crater lakes, home to the habituated mountain gorillas.

  • Kigali

Kigali is rated one of Africa’s cleanest cities and the local people certainly take pride in that. The city is also booming in art and architecture, with spaces like the Kigali Cultural Village emerging for local artisans and tourists alike.

  • Nyungwe Forest

Nyungwe National Park is probably one of the best preserved montane rainforests in Africa. It is also one of the oldest on the continent. The forest is rich with flora and fauna and its biodiversity is truly impressive.

  • Lake Kivu

Bordering between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lake Kivu is on the Great African Lakes. Because of its location, it is surrounded by mountains and dormant volcanoes, making this area extremely picturesque.

  • Serengeti National Park

Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti National Park can be easily combined with a Rwanda honeymoon, with direct connecting flights. Combining a safari here with the mountain gorillas is an unforgettable experience!

Why we love Rwanda honeymoons

All of the itineraries we put together are completely customized and private. From the moment you arrive into Kigali, you will be met by a private driver/guide to a nearby airport hotel or continue on to the Volcanoes National Park to start your honeymoon. If you are doing a gorilla or monkey trek, this is on a shared basis. There is a maximum of six people per group, so you will be trekking with other travelers. You will also be accompanied by a professional guide, ranger and several porters. Other activities from the lodges, like community visits, may also be with other guests. All transfers will be on a private basis and we will organize these with our team of dedicated friendly and professional guides and drivers.

When to Visit Rwanda

Rwanda’s prime time is June to October, ideal for gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, game drives, and forest hikes. December to March is also suitable, though the festive season can be busy. For gorilla tracking at Volcanoes National Park, June to October and December to February offer favorable weather. Regardless of when you visit, using a local porter is recommended. Kigali’s international airport is open year-round, with daily flights and pleasant weather. Kigali’s hotels are available throughout the year.

Your Rwanda honeymoon questions answered

What is the best destination for a Rwanda honeymoon?

This completely depends on what sort of honeymoon experience you are looking for. Most honeymoon couples have the mountain gorillas on their bucket list, so Volcanoes National Park is almost always visited. It is also a very accessible park to get to as it is only a 2 to 3-hour drive from Kigali. For honeymoon couples looking to combine other primate experiences, then Nyungwe Forest is a great option. Here you can do activities like hiking, canopy walks, and visiting waterfalls in the forest. There are also plenty of cultural activities you can do, such as visiting local communities and nearby tea plantations. Rwanda is also easy to combine with other destinations, so honeymoon couples can fly into the Serengeti for a safari or Zanzibar for some time on the beach, for example.

Which are the best safari camps for a Rwanda honeymoon?

The accommodation in Rwanda has really excelled over the last couple of years and today, there are several unique and stunning lodges across most national parks. In Bwindi, I’d recommend lodges like Bisate, Kwitonda and One and Only for your Rwanda honeymoon. A more cost-effective option would be Sabyinyo Lodge or Virunga Lodge – both offering fantastic service and attention to detail. The best way to find out what accommodation would be suited for your honeymoon is to speak on the phone, so that I can get a better understanding of what you are looking for and what would work within your budget. A phone call or video call is a great starting point, so get in touch!

Can I combine the beach with a Rwanda honeymoon?

Rwanda is a landlocked country so although you cannot combine the beach inside the country, it is possible to fly to another country to add the beach at the end of your Rwanda trip. A common combination is Rwanda’s mountain gorillas, Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and then Zanzibar Island. Other beach options include the southern coast of Kenya, or Indian Ocean islands like the Seychelles or Mauritius.
