The Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania is a prime safari destination, teeming with diverse wildlife including lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, and more. It hosts the awe-inspiring Great Wildebeest Migration.

Tanzania is home to a wealth of fantastic national parks and reserves, so here are some of our recommendations of where to visit on your Tanzania Honeymoon.
The Serengeti National Park in northern Tanzania is a prime safari destination, teeming with diverse wildlife including lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, and more. It hosts the awe-inspiring Great Wildebeest Migration.
The Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is a remarkable safari destination, boasting the world’s largest caldera. Descending from the crater rim with your private guide, you’ll encounter diverse wildlife, including lions, elephants, rhino and more.
Zanzibar, an island off Tanzania’s east coast, boasts stunning white sand beaches, the Indian Ocean’s shimmering waters, a lush Jozani forest with endemic colobus monkeys, charming Stone Town alleys, and fragrant spice farms.
On a honeymoon road trip through Tanzania’s northern parks, Tarangire National Park is often featured in the itinerary. Known for huge elephant herds and lion numbers, it’s close to Ngorongoro. Secluded safari camps offer a wow-factor stay.
Located in southern Tanzania, Ruaha National Park is a very dry and arid landscape, which contrasts against other Tanzania national parks. The park is famous for sightings of lion, buffalo and leopard.
Ruaha National ParkNyerere National Park is one of the largest in Tanzania. The park has many permanent water sources including rivers and lakes, which invites animal species to congregate around these areas, which makes for excellent viewing.
Nyerere National ParkFor those that are still considering which safari destination is best for your honeymoon, I would highly recommend Tanzania and this is for several reasons. Not only does it offer incredibly rich and reliable wildlife opportunities, but there are particular national parks which are a lot quieter, with fewer safari jeeps. These include the southern parks of Tanzania – Ruaha and Nyerere National Parks – as well as the west and eastern plains of the Serengeti. These are areas that are less visited and have fewer safari camps, but the game viewing is still fantastic. Another reason that Tanzania is a fantastic safari honeymoon destination is because of the beautiful beaches and coastline it homes. Zanzibar is an island off the coast of Tanzania’s eastern mainland, and it’s often combined in a honeymoon itinerary. This gives couples time to relax and unwind after their safari and, with Zanzibar offering so many luxury five-star hotels and properties, you can do so in ultimate style.
Tanzania offers year-round travel opportunities, with sunny, warm weather. Rainy seasons are April, May, and November. While June-September is fantastic for dry weather and clear views, any time of the year offers great game viewing. Some months are popular due to the wildebeest migration, such as January-March for calving and July-September/October for river crossings. Choose the best time with our specialists’ guidance.

Our Signature BrochureThere are a handful of incredible national parks, reserves, conservancies, mountain ranges, and islands across Tanzania, so it really depends on what experience you are looking for for your honeymoon. If you are wanting to do a safari then I would highly recommend the northern parks of Tanzania, including the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. If you’re looking for a safari experience off-the-beaten-track and somewhere more remote, then the southern parks of the Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve) and Ruaha National Park are fantastic options for honeymooners. For those looking for a beach destination pre or post-safari, then Zanzibar or the coast of mainland Tanzania are very good options.
The most visited island in Tanzania is Zanzibar, and rightly so. The island is so rich in history and culture, and its capital Stone Town is a destination in itself. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit when it comes to spending time in Zanzibar. The accommodation in Zanzibar is also diverse, with plenty of options from small, boutique hotels to larger resorts. However, if you are looking for a truly secluded island to spend your honeymoon on, then we’d highly recommend islands like Fanjove or Mnemba. As private islands though, these come with a price tag!
We organize private tours in Tanzania, which means that from the minute you arrive in the country, you will be met with private transfers and an itinerary that has been designed specifically for you. That said, a safari is often on a shared basis which means that your game drives will be with other guests from the camp. These will be in open-sided Land Cruisers, and you will have a professional safari guide driving you. There will be a maximum of 6/7 people and these will all be guests from the same camp. There are options to do completely private safaris (with your own safari jeep and guide) but we will run through the options and logistics with you when we are curating your perfect Tanzania honeymoon.
There are draws to both destinations, and both certainly offer a great safari experience, especially for first-time safaris or honeymooners. That said, if you are looking to combine a safari and beach honeymoon, I’d argue that Tanzania is the better option. This is because there are several flight options from safari to the beach which makes combining them very accessible, and there are plenty of accommodation options for honeymoon couples in Zanzibar and other islands off the mainland.
